Terms used:

  • chalk line: carpenter's tool that allows you to mark an easily removeable straight line; available at places like Menard's. Return to the page on "Measuring your wall..."

These next items can be found at any good paint store:
  • latex paint conditioner: keeps the glaze workable longer. Return to the page on "Glazes, your foundation".
  • latex varnish: no odor, easy to use and cleans up with water. You want a dull or flat finish because bricks aren't shiny. Return to the page on "Bricks at last".
  • painters tape: looks like masking tape, but pulls off easily. Return to the page on "Measuring your wall..."
  • universal stainers: available in 2 oz or 16 oz sizes; colors latex and oil base paints. It's sort of expensive unless you plan on doing a lot of this sort of thing. The alternative is to go to your local craft store and buy the 2 oz. craft paints. Mix these with the water and the conditioner ~ it will work just fine. Return to page on "Glazes, your foundation".
