Barbara at the Fair
Working a craft fair is extremely hard work. Although I have been to
many over the years, I have only participated in two. The first was the
Custer Street Fair in Evanston. My husband dropped me (and all my wares)
off and left for Michigan with his daughter, Megan. As soon as I got all
of my tie-dye clothing on my makeshift rack it collapsed, leaving all of
my beautiful garments lying on the ground.
Because the fair covered several city blocks, there was no vehicular traffic. I had to walk several blocks to the lumber yard - beg them to drill holes in some 2x4's - and drag everything back to my site. I looked like some ersatz religious figure, dragging my timber through the busy streets. This picture was taken at the 2nd fair, also in Evanston. I had better equipment and more help that time, but the second day we worked in the rain. After that, I decided that maybe there was a better way to express my creative side. |
